SquareTrade’s Dispute Resolution Services

How can you resolve a dispute online?
Disputes are as old as time, but resolving them online through the internet is now possilbe. Just as your transaction was online, so too can your resolution. Online-Auto-Auction’s preferred dispute resolution service offers first a free web-based neutral service to resolve the dispute. If that does not resolve the dispute, a professional mediator can be brought in to resolve the issue.

What are the costs associated with this service?
It is free to file a complaint and notify the other party that you have done so through the SquareTrade mechanism. SquareTrade contacts the other party and encourages them to resolve the case. Most disputes are resolved at this stage. If it is not, and a mediator is brought in on the file, then there is a $40 fee.

What are the benefits of using this mechanism?
The main benefit is that you turn a potential negative experience into a positive one, however specific benefits include:
  • It reduces negative feedback pre-maturely
  • It provides an immediate neutral to go between the parties and resolve the issue in a timely manner
  • It provides a fair solution to cases that are often just misunderstandings
  • It gives credibility to the feedback forum system and removes unnecessary negative feedback
  • It provides a way not to use the formal legal system and waste time and money

How does one start the process today?
You are asked to complete the online SquareTrade form with the following information:
  • First create a User ID and password
  • Then fill in the details of the dispute

SquareTrade will send a notification email to the other party who can then respond to you. Your complaint and the other party’s response will appear in a secure area on the SquareTrade Web site. Disputes are often successfully settled with this independent resolution method.

As stated above, if this does not work, you can ask for a independent mediator to be assigned to the file. You will be assessed a $40 fee. The mediator will work to understand both points of view and to help develop a fair, agreeable settlement. If a resolution can’t be reached, the mediator will recommend a solution based on principles of fairness and good conduct. This process will generally take 10 days to complete.
