- Read the Vehicle’s description, including shipping, insurance and payment options. Also, check the seller’s feedback as to their business practices and reputation.
- Never make assumptions. If you are unsure, contact the seller through the “ask seller a question” link on the vehicle’s bid page. Ask specific questions if you have doubts about the vehicle’s condition, mileage or options.
- Know the vehicle’s comparable value by researching the vehicles worth, especially similarly equipped vehicles.
- Decide exactly what is the maximum you are willing to pay for the vehicle (see our how to buy link). Also consider how much you want the vehicle, how much it is worth to get it now, and what could waiting for a similar vehicle cost you. All of these considerations should affect the maximum you would bid.
- With our proxy bidding, remember that it is the maximum amount that you enter into the system. The system will automatically bid for you to the next highest increment above the current bid. Keep that in mind when calculating how much above the current bid price you are willing to go. With the proxy system, of course you could end up getting the vehicle for far less than your maximum. Or you may find that you are outbid, and you need to enter a new maximum. Keep checking on the current bid as the auction proceeds and be aware of the end time for that vehicle.
- Another consideration if you are set on buying a particular vehicle is to buy it outright at the Purchase Vehicle Now! price. This would mean avoiding the auction and any chance that you could lose the vehicle.
- Please do not bid on multiple similar vehicles if you do not have the ability to pay for each one. Each vehicle represents a separate contract and if you won, you would be legally responsible to each buyer for the final amount at the end of the auction. If you did not pay, you would at a minimum face negative feedback and you would be suspended from this site.
